Interviews With Minnesotans

From your vision to a statewide plan

It's here! Based on your input over the past year, a 20-year Statewide Multimodal Transportation Plan has been developed. This plan will serve as a policy guide for making transportation investment decisions for all of Minnesota.

"The social, economic and environmental climates of Minnesota are rapidly changing, and it is critical that our state's transportation system adapt," said Transportation Commissioner Tom Sorel. "The Plan places emphasis on building and maintaining a multimodal transportation system through solutions that ensure a high return-on-investment, given constrained resources, and that complement the unique social, natural and economic features of Minnesota."

Why is this important?

Transportation impacts our lives every day. We drive on highways or take a bus or train to work. Our food arrives on trucks or freight trains that also carry Minnesota commodities to shipping ports worldwide. Not only do airplanes carry us to our leisure or work destinations, but they also carry our mail and packages. Having an overall direction for our transportation system as a whole—every mode across the state—sets the stage for the specific modal plans that will help decide how dollars will be spent and how success will be measured. As Minnesotans and stakeholders, we should have input on how our transportation system serves our future environmental health, economic competitiveness, and overall quality of life.
